John Billson Managing Director of Dean & Wood said, “Mark was my business partner and friend, a one off who will never be replaced. He will be sadly missed by me, the business and the industry”

One of Mark’s many roles in Dean & Wood was directing the supply chain where he was well respected. A key supplier to the businesses is HARP Refrigerants and Bryan Davies Managing Director commented;

Mark Gardner was instrumental in forming the existing relationship between Dean & Wood and Harp International some 12 years ago. This, we believe, has transformed into a partnership not a mere contractual situation. Over the years we have got to know each other rather well and developed a mutual respect for each other’s qualities and attributes. It is only right to say that Mark was the “fairest” guy I have come across. He would always consider “the other side of the story” during his deliberations, which is an unusual quality in a stereotypical FD. I have certainly learnt tolerance from Mark, albeit I’m still in a different league.

As for the person, Mark was the “cleanest living” guy I know. Unlike the rest of us he seldom swore, didn’t smoke, didn’t drink to excess, kept fit, cycled to work (nothing to do with saving fuel I’m sure!!) and ate all the right stuff. I can clearly remember bringing Mark to the Millenium Stadium for a Wales v England rugby international and he was clearly uncomfortable accepting our hospitality whereas others would have relished in the “freebie”.

On the business front Mark was a true intellectual and an excellent FD. His integrity in this respect was beyond reproach. Mark’s business qualities are far too numerous to mention here.

I’m sure that he will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing this quite remarkable character.
